JAZMYN AZURE Photography and other “through the lens” images currently provide the primary reflection of our human and natural experience. Ceramics and our manipulation of earth have historically played a global role as a medium to record both imagination and evolution. Ceramic expression provides me the ability to explore and share my vision of our society today through the manipulation of the earth, fire, color and imagery. I combine ceramics and photographic imagery on sculptural forms in order to express my reflections of social, economic, and political trends in contemporary American culture. My intent is to provide a more journalistic and neutral perspective. Influenced by the past, I try to present factual information through the use of both ceramic and photographic mediums to address issues that reflect our human condition. My work involves journalistic research that takes both the facts and perspectives of our society to hopefully present a neutral middle ground. “A radical inner transformation and rise to a new level of consciousness might be the only real hope we have in the current global crisis brought on by the dominances of the Western mechanistic paradigm.” – Stanislav Grof After extensively researching and evaluating topics, I utilize social interaction to compile a multitude of perspectives around a single idea. I feel that the sharing of life experiences can provide a more diverse reflection of our current condition as opposed to simply relying on my subjective observations and research.
