MARIANNE VILLANUEVA, writer

Marianne Villanueva was born and raised in the Philippines, received a Creative Writing Fellowship to Stanford University, and now lives in California. She has a masters degree in Chinese, as well as in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. She has written three collections of short stories: Ginseng and Other Tales From Manila, Mayor of the Roses, and The Lost Language. Her first novella, Jenalyn, was a finalist for the 2014 UK Saboteur Awards. Her stories have been shortlisted for the O. Henry Literature Prize and nominated several times for the Pushcart. She writes speculative fiction, prose poetry, travel essays, and personal essays. She is currently completing a novel, set in the Philippines in the 18th century.
