2018/19 Artist in Residence


Marieke von Johnson is best known for her wheel-thrown functional pottery. Marieke uses a variety of clay bodies in her work such as porcelain, white stoneware, and occasionally iron rich red clay bodies. Marieke enjoys making functional pieces that are small and intimate, but also enjoys making larger vessels. She enjoys the simple and direct nature of pottery as well as exploring deeper content and themes through sculptural clay work. She is currently making tall vases and bottles and working with ideas surrounding totems.


ABOUT MARIEKE
Marieke von Johnson resides in San Francisco where she was born and raised. She earned her BFA in Ceramics and Art History from San Francisco State University. She currently maintains a San Francisco studio that aims to foster community and connection through art by the name X?X Studio + Gallery.
