MIMI CARROLL, photography

Being an Artist in Residence is giving me the opportunity to play, explore, dream, imagine, create, and heal. I love living in Mendocino!

As a photographer I photograph life moments with a romantic dreamy quality, newborns, weddings, rites of passage, tea parties, and families playing. In the digital age I mostly give folks digital images and see little of my work in print. So my goal is to learn to make large prints of my work.

As a recent breast cancer survivor I am learning nothing is the same after breast cancer. As my daughter says, “How do we come to terms with being told and knowing that it may come back?” It is a journey to knowing, accepting, and moving on. I am looking to art in that journey, exploring local art, talking with folks about art, photographing local magic, living in art full Mendocino. I am drawn to ideas of illness with dignity, that disease effects the whole family not just the sick, caregivers, resiliency, and how to use art to support recovery. I am working on how to express this in my photography and learning to just be in the process and not push it.
