Learn basic blacksmithing techniques in the process of making a hook rack. Students will choose one hook design and practice forging techniques while making multiple hooks. The hooks will then be riveted onto a forged mounting bar, completing the project. This will be an intensive and very fun weekend of forging.
About the Instructor
CARLA HALL has been making decorative ironwork for over 20 years. She is greatly influenced by the experience of growing up in central North Carolina with a family history of tobacco, cotton and moonshining. She has a diverse education including studies at Penland Craft School, the Evergreen State College, where she received her BA in metalwork, and through multiple apprenticeships. She has a strong belief in arts education and empowering youth through exploring industrial arts. Her greatest creative influences come from Japanese folk art and architecture and from old industrial structures. She currently runs Carla Hall Metal Design and works as the Youth Program Director at The Crucible.
