707 937-5818, ext. 10 or toll-free 800 653-3328, ext. 10
Cast a special cement mixture in a cardboard box or tube and carve it while it is still soft with spoons and knives or simple hand tools. Make a sculpture, fountain, birdbath, planter, light fixture, steppingstones or a project of your choice. You can bring shards to insert. Ecological, we reuse the material. Easy, fast, everyone loves it!
The first day, learn the possibilities of the materials and process, design your piece, and engineer your container. The second day, pour and carve. The third and fourth, refine and detail, work with color and texture, or carve another piece. You can produce pieces in a wide range of textures and colors including very smooth, refined, jade-like surfaces that might find their home indoors. Explore the possibilities of an inexpensive, widely available material that needs no further processing and is ready to install. All levels are welcome.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
LAWRENCE JUNIPER has been a sculptor artist for more than three decades, working in marble, granite, wood and bronze. He has traveled all over the world, but especially Italy, which sparked a renaissance to his work and the discovery of ancestral tools. For many years his own studio in Bolinas, Marin had been a gallery space where clients, students, art curators, and fellow artists visited in search for an ongoing dialogue. He has worked with youth and the homeless population in San Francisco. His art, which is known as Primal Arts, is deeply influenced by the natural world. His work is reflective of natural, organic and archetypal forces that evoke feelings of reverence for and connection with the earth. At a time when so many have become disconnected from their own creativity, he finds this especially meaningful. In his own creation process, he has come to realize how precious this intuitive knowledge is, and how it has evolved in his own work. His heart plays a central role; and his deepest goal as an artist is to continue to touch and inspire people to open up to their own source of creativity.
