In this workshop, students will explore organza’s beautiful translucent properties using a variety of techniques to add depth and interest to their art quilts. We’ll create different effects by experimenting with liquid acrylics, sun-printing and relief-printing techniques with natural materials, using stabilizers, layering, Bojagi-inspired piecing and more.

MARTHA WOLFE is an award-winning studio quilter and founding member and curator of the international group, Viewpoints 9. Her work is informed by her experience as a marine toxicologist and a fascination with nature. Using photographs from travel and her backyard, she interprets the natural and man-made world in her graphic, representational style. With layered color value, analogous to printmaking, she creates shadow and light, adding layers of organza to develop depth and dimension. Birds, bicycles, and fish are frequently celebrated in her artwork.

Wolfe’s work is exhibited throughout the world, included in private collections, and published in numerous books and magazines, including, Quilting Arts, Fiber Arts Now, and Art & Antiques. She currently serves as an Executive Board Member and Secretary of the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA).
