This master class explores the skills of shibori with the timeless appeal of indigo, from deepest midnight to azures blues by using three different types of vat at different strengths. Stitch resist offers so many variables for pattern and design and we will be looking at the geometry for pattern planning. We stumble happily upon geometry again while working itajime, (folding and placing fabric between boards before dying). Cylinder wrapping gives another kind of mark, sinuous and linear and many binding techniques will take us back to 60’s tie-dye options. Many of these techniques can be combined to produce uniquely intriguing patterns and designs. Further dyes may be incorporated – details to be announced later.

JANE CALLENDER is the author of two books, 2000 Pattern Combinations, also printed in Japan, and Stitched Shibori.
