CLASS DESCRIPTION
This class will explore the use of found materials, images and texts to create collages on paper. Both formal and personal explorations will be encouraged. An emphasis will be placed on the search for images to achieve a freshness and the unexpected as found images are juxtaposed. This class is for those curious about the format to those wishing to push themselves beyond their present abilities.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
GARY KEITH graduated with an MFA in Painting from Claremont Graduate University. He has exhibited his art for over 30 years and has had work (collages) used on the covers of several literary publications as well as had his writing published.

He has taught art at the college level as well as drawing at the Mendocino Art Center.

“I was drawn to collages as a way to force new meanings by combining images. The idea of creating unexpected associations and getting a fresh view from the collision of words, drawings and found imagery has continued to interest me.

"I’ve found collages a way for people with no previous artistic experience to create something wonderful. Thinking, looking and assembling and can bring forth art beyond the students’ expectations of their capabilities.

"Collage is also a great technique for those further along in their artistic journey to get out of a rut by using images not of their making rather than dipping in the same well time after time.”
