Students will learn a handful of direct application dye techniques using non-toxic fiber reactive Procion dyes. We will explore various fibers in this workshop, including an oversized square bamboo scarf, a silk scarf, large linen squares that can be made into pillows or used for furushiki, and a set of cotton napkins. Participants are encouraged to bring 7-10 projects from home they wish to transform during this workshop. Natural fibers only, i.e. cotton, linen, hemp, rayon, bamboo, tencel, or silk. Feel free to take a zero waste approach to this and bring pieces from home that are stained that you wish to transform. Feel free to bring pillowcases, yardage, onesies, and items to make into holiday gifts.

Connecting my handmade work to my interest in environmental sustainability has been a major focus of my business from the start. I have been an organic gardener for over 20 years, majored in Environmental Studies in college, and have long worked with natural materials. In creating functional, beautiful items by hand, I use stones, wood and plants, both foraged and cultivated in our garden. I choose to work with organic cotton, sustainable fibers, non-toxic dyes and when possible, materials manufactured in the USA. My studio is located in the Casket Arts Bldg. in the NE Art's District of Minneapolis, MN.
