This is an introduction to weaving sculptural forms with basket materials. Beginning with reed, students will learn how to create three-dimensional forms with reed and traditional basketry techniques. Using a basic stake and strand process, we will learn how to begin and end a woven form, and how to manipulate the shape as the form develops. If time allows, other techniques may be introduced. We will also discuss the potential of including and/or using other materials, such as native reeds and grasses, string, wire, plastic, found and recycled stuff.

GINA TELCOCCI’s sculpture has been exhibited widely across the US, in Mexico and South Korea. Public commissions include Potrero Hill Library, San Francisco, CA; Walnut Creek Library, Walnut Creek, CA; and University of New Mexico/Los Alamos. Telcocci has created temporary installations for public and private sites in Oakland, CA; Albuquerque, NM; Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe, NM; Pojoaque Pueblo and San Jose Canyon, NM. She has received grants and awards from, among others, the Pollock Krasner Foundation, Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation, and the City of Oakland. Her work is represented by GearBox Gallery, Oakland, CA; and Ernesto Mayans Gallery in Santa Fe, NM. Telcocci has taught 3-Dimensional Design, Sculpture, and many other art classes and workshops to students ranging from grade school to college.
