Just for fun… Holiday Ornament making! Come and hand make some festive ornaments using wire, sheet metal, copper mesh, and trinkets of all sorts. We will weave, bend, fold, texture, emboss and add color with enamels and color pencils. Participants will learn how to use pliers, snips, burnishers, hydraulic press and basics of enameling. Enjoy hot-spiced cider and treats while creating and playing with friendly studio elves assisting. Most of all this is about having fun and making lovely ornaments for gifts or to decorate your own home!

The Susan E. Wood Jewelry Studio is available for use for a fee the days following your workshop should you like to continue practicing new skills or finish projects started in class. For more details or to schedule extra workdays, please contact Nancy Gardner, Jewelry/Metal Arts Coordinator.

Elf 1 – DANA DRIVER lives and works in Albion, CA. She has worked as a studio jeweler since receiving her BFA in Metal Arts from CCAC (now CCA) in 1975 and continues her life long education by taking and teaching workshops, sharing information and continuous experimentation. Known for her beach stone jewelry and small objects inlaid with fine silver and 22kt gold, Dana is now exploring the world of recycling which has led her to die making and embossing using a hydraulic press and repurposed materials.

Elf 2 – NANCY GARDNER has been making fine jewelry in Mendocino since 1985. She received her BA in design, concentration in metal smithing at Buffalo State College. Three years of her college years were spent studying in Florence, Italy and Lisbon, Portugal. It was her time in Portugal, studying with old world craftsman, that gave her a deep understanding of precious metals and their working properties. She has participated in a number of international shows, and has taught silver and gold jewelry fabrication both in Europe and at the Mendocino Art Center. Since her arrival in Mendocino she has been hand fabricating unique silver and gold jewelry for retail sale in various galleries throughout the US. In 2001 she opened Mendocino Jewelry Studio, a jewelry gallery on Main Street in Mendocino which exhibits 12 local jewelers, each with their own unique style.
