Come participate in a wood firing with wood fire artist and kiln builder Evan Hobart. The E&M Express is a bury box train kiln that was built by Evan Hobart and Mitch Iburg in the summer of 2016. Its unique design allows for easy loading of wares and quick and efficient firing. This will give great results in less time then larger anagama kilns and it’s a learning tool for both beginner and well seasoned wood fire artists. In this class Evan will start with a discussion on glazing and lading techniques and have examples of various finished wood fire pieces. The kiln will be loaded on the first day and started in the evening. Participants will be expected to take on a wood shift for stoking the kiln. This is a great time to learn about how the kiln fires, what wood works well and what techniques are used to fire the kiln and produce various results on the wares inside. This will also be when participants are schooled on how to operate the kiln. The kiln will be fired by Evan and the participants for three days with one day for cool down and the last day for unload and a discussion of the results and how to clean up the wares.
