Silver Metal Clay Paper Type is a unique paper-thin sheet of 99.9% fine silver clay that remains soft during working time and requires no drying time. This amazing product allows the metal clay enthusiast to expand their repertoire of metal clay techniques. In this workshop students will use Metal Clay Paper type to explore the ageless skills of Quilling and Origami. Quilling is an ancient art technique used during the Renaissance to decorate book covers, cards, jewelry and religious items. It involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, looped, curled and twisted to create shapes. Students will learn this ageless art form using Metal Clay Paper Type. Origami is the Japanese art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures. Students will use Metal Clay Paper Type Plus, which can be scored then folded and shaped into sturdy decorative objects.

Wrapping up the workshop we will discuss other uses for the Paper Type products such as applique techniques, stepped bezel setting for facetted stones and bezel setting for cabochon stones. Join me in this fun and educational workshop and discover new metal clay techniques. Prior metal clay experience is helpful but not required.

The Susan E. Wood Jewelry Studio is available for use for a fee the days following your workshop should you like to continue practicing new skills or finish projects started in class. For more details or to schedule extra workdays, please contact Nancy Gardner, Jewelry/Metal Arts Coordinator.

ARLENE MORNICK has been teaching Metal Clay classes for over 20 years in several locations in the San Francisco Bay Area and at many trade and jewelry shows throughout the country. Regularly she contributes metal clay step-by-step projects to the trade journal Lapidary Journal/Jewelry Artist.

“Sculpting unrefined glass, metals and other materials into unique objects of beauty is a transformative experience for me. The powerful heat required to fuse these elements arouses my creative spirit and focuses my artistry. The results are colorful and decorative designs that exemplify my own distinctive sense of passion and refinement. My work blends dissimilar elements and materials into detailed, flowing and harmonious articles and jewelry meant to be worn, admired and cherished. As a fused glass and metal clay artist, I create my own line of jewelry. As a teacher, I love to help individuals find their creative side and learn to express themselves in new ways. If I can open new doors, new paths of expression for people, then I believe the work I do as a teacher and the art I create is worthwhile.”
