CLASS DESCRIPTION

There is something about clay that, when it is in your hands on your table, can bring you into the present moment so completely you literally forget to be hungry. This present time full of uncertainty and disruption is unprecedented in many of our lifetimes. It has stopped most people in their tracks to one degree or another and left us wondering what to do, I can hardly get into my studio to work. At the same time, this uncertainty and disruption is an invitation to slow down, to do things differently. As Artists, uncertainty and disruption are necessary energies to have in our studio but only in doses that we can work with.

This online class is designed to do just that. I will offer exercises and practices that can help you stay grounded and allow you to move deeper into your studio practice. I will tailor demonstrations to the needs of the students, offering techniques and solutions to problems that you are facing in your studio. The demos, exercises, and projects will be suitable for potters and sculptors, wheel-throwers and hand-builders, all of us will simply need to be willing to look and listen again and again with new eyes and ears at what our creative impulses offer. The class time will be on a Zoom conference call, there will be exercises during that time.

Demos will be offered on Fridays or recorded out of class time and shared with students in between classes. There will be projects assigned between classes.
