Whether or not you know how to knit, this is a fantastic place to start – the beginning. Well, not exactly the beginning – that would take us back thousands of years. Knitting beginners are all equal – it’s you, your yarn + your needles = the basics. In this class, you will learn new knitting techniques or you may refresh old skills. Pick or throw you say? Learn the best knitting style for you. Cast On & Knit techniques come first. When you are confident that you are correctly practicing your knits, the next step is Purls! Only one more technique to learn: Cast Off. These four stitches are your basic skills, your foundation. This skill set will allow you to complete almost any easy knitting project. You are now ready to start working with a pattern. Patterns provided are: Easy Scarf and a Face Cloth, you will be able to pick one.

Now you are ready to KNIT! The FUN of knitting is you always have a new stitch or technique to learn, you never stop learning or creating. Along the way, you will learn about gauge – or how to size your project correctly. Fiber content and use will also be discussed, and so much more.

Denyse will answer all of your whys and what-if questions. Learn all about knitting from this second-generation professional knitter. Denyse will be happy to answer your questions at a drop of a stitch.

Knitting artisan DENYSE SPECKTOR learned to knit from her mother at the age of five. Her wearable art designs were sold to Beverly Hills boutiques. Denyse became a second-generation professional knitter, with media commissions seen in films, commercials, music videos and on television, along with gallery exhibits. Denyse became a published author with her compendium of knitting information, The Knitting Primer.

Denyse’s creative talents have been employed by Knits Vogue Knitting Knitters     Cast On and an array of yarn companies. My Knitting Bag, Denyse's first column  interviewing noteworthy knitters appeared regularly in Knits Magazine along with a column on collectibles called Vintage Advantage. Melanie Falick requested Denyse as a contributor for her books Weekend Knitting and Knit: A Personal Handbook. Denyse contributed several essays to For The Love of Knitting. She is recognized throughout California and by The National Needlework Association for her mastery of diverse knitting techniques.

Denyse wrote for the British knitting publication, Let’s Knit as the American contributor. Her column, YARN OVER... THERE – reported on American knitting trends. Designs by Denyse appeared regularly in Let’s Knit in addition to two cover designs.

In 2005 her company, The Big Yarn, created innovative and elegant sterling silver knitting tools. Denyse holds a patent for the NeedleSizer. In 2017 Denyse published her magazine Knitting Circles. Santa Monica Evening Outlook exclaimed Denyse Specktor aka the big yarn is the knitter to the stars.
