16th Annual home & garden tour

Garden Paradise • Harmony Woods

The gardens at Harmony Woods, nestled into a cathedral of redwoods, reflect the owners’ penchant for collecting an enormous range of unusual and beautiful plants. Their emphasis is on the rhododendrons and conifers, with over 300 specimens of each, but they are a small part of plant material gracing their twenty beds. Education is an integral part of their collecting and a way of sharing knowledge with others. They try to learn and share as much as possible about each plant, through research, mapping, cataloging and labeling.

A perennial garden and terraced beds of cymbidiums represent the only fenced area of the property. Coexisting happily with the animals as well as the redwoods brings serenity to their lives. They will be happy to share their ways if you ask.

The initial garden design, beginning sixteen years ago, was by local landscape designer Jaen Treesinger. A newly created waterfall and stone bridge area, designed by Christiansen/Arner, has just been planted with mature rhododendrons, maples and ferns. Gently falling waters, ever-changing colors and contrasting textures delight and nourish the garden owners every day
