17th Annual home & garden tour

Janet & David's Wildlife Studio & Garden

For David, landscaping is another medium for artistic expression. This project began in 1961, collecting the tons of material needed. By 1997, there were enough varieties of sizes, colors and shapes of rocks to begin working on the design elements. Much of the landscaping is a rock garden, not a garden with rocks.

The same artistic principles that govern painting and sculpture are present in creating a garden. Rocks carry the theme, while the plants and flowers give the garden seasonal variation. In winter when the flowers are dormant, the stones, earth, aviaries and buildings provide the visual interest. David also has a world class Wildlife studio.

David came to Mendocino to help Bill Zacha build the Mendocino Art Center, and stayed and built a life. Janet brought her skills as an interior designer to Mendocino. David is a past President of the Board. They too are celebrating 50 years of life on the Mendocino coast.
