18th Annual home & garden tour

Garden with an Ocean View

When the owners purchased this home in April 1996, they were not only intrigued by the spectacular ocean views, but also the opportunity to own a deeded island with its ocean-carved arches. The island made the property wonderfully unique, while also affording protection from the wild forces of nature.

Harold Brayton originally constructed this home in 1964 from huge redwood timbers salvaged from the old Caspar Mill. The owners have thoughtfully renovated and enlarged the home and created the gardens over the years, using a nautical theme to unify them with the natural landscape. A stately brick courtyard embraces a sheltered garden and provides a dramatic entry portal to the home. A whimsically sculptured concrete grotto and serpentine stone pathway will lead you through several hidden gardens.

Over the years, the owners have planted and nurtured thousands of shrubs, grasses and trees. Gardening is one of their treasured passions. Enjoy!
