New to the redwoods, it was trial and error to find plants that would thrive in the moist and shady environment. After battling slugs and nibbling deer we brought our plants up onto the deck. Japanese maples and ferns are the main focus with pots of flowers and a planter of equisetum for contrast.
Dale, the main gardener, is a plein air painter, figurative artist and graphic designer. His studio looks out onto the deck garden. Susan’s garden path, lined with Japanese maples, pieris, rhododendron and ferns, welcomes you into her studio.
Susan, this year’s Garden Tour poster artist, dye paints on silk and is currently working on illustrations for a children’s book.
Our gardens have evolved to coexist with the flora and fauna of the forest floor, moss, trillium, redwood sorrel, wild iris, ferns and forget-me-nots.
It is a pleasure to be asked to share our garden and art with you.
