WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
With this exciting process, it is possible to produce a metal-cast sculpture in a single day! Styrofoam is used to create a sculpture pattern which is then packed in an oil-bound sand. Molten metal is poured directly into the sand, replacing the pattern in metal. Styrofoam is a very versatile material; it is easily cut, shaped, glued, and laminated. This workshop will take students through the entire process of pattern design, casting and finishing of sculptures. Aluminum is a beautiful metal capable of being painted, stained, hammered, burnished, and polished to a chrome-like appearance.

Oregon artist WALT PADGETT earned a BFA and an MFA degree in Sculpture from Florida State University, taught for community colleges and universities for over 35 years, and is now a full-time practicing artist in the areas of sculpture, painting and printmaking.
