Screen printing basics using water base inks and stencils to produce limited edition serigraphs will be the focus of this workshop. The instruction will include planning and building a set-up, making stencils, printing strategies, mixing inks and print production on paper. There is a definite excitement generated around pressing ink through a screen where a crisp, detailed image is produced with the pass of a squeegee. Tuition: $175.
MICHAEL GUERRIERO is a studio printmaker and painter. He has produced a series of landscape serigraphs dating back to 1979. His prints are a combination of his reverence of the beautiful natural world we inhabit with his interest in generating a printed image that reflects the source of inspiration. In this weekend workshop you will learn all about fine art framing and design. Bring a small project that you have always wanted to get framed, and the instructor will supervise the layout, matting, mounting and assembly. If you have several items to frame or if you desire to frame art on a continuing basis, it won't take long for some quality framing equipment to pay for itself. Picture frame restoration and archival techniques will also be demonstrated, so bring those old damaged frames for repairs. Upon completion of this class you will know how to cut multiple mats, safely handle glass and assemble a frame. No experience necessary. Materials fee: $25. Tuition: $165.

The endless and exciting possibilities of encaustic monotype will be explored. Encaustic monotype, the creation of one-of-a-kind encaustic paintings on paper using a warm metal plate, will be explored in depth. Covered in this workshop will be the different kinds and weights of paper, the use and creation of templates and stencils, integration of other materials, and presentation methods. SANDI MIOT is a full-time artist living, working and teaching in Northern California. She has worked extensively in a variety of mediums, from clay and glass to oil, pastels, and watercolor, but she especially loves the ancient mediums of encaustic and gold leaf. She has studied in Italy learning oil, egg tempera, and gold leaf from master artists in these mediums and enjoys finding new ways to integrate these mediums into encaustics. Her paintings are shown and collected both nationally and internationally and have appeared on the sets of popular TV shows such as Friends, ER, and CSI: Miami.

Learn to draw and paint the contemporary nude using expressive painting techniques. If you have ever wanted to learn how to paint the freestyle abstract figure, this workshop is for you. In this high energy mixed media workshop we will explore a variety of methods for integrating surface and image. Red can be difficult to paint in watercolor. Using the form of a flower, we will focus on how to create luminous washes and intensify color. You will then be able to apply this technique to other red objects. For instance, there are different kinds of red: some can repel while others attract. With many demonstrations throughout the workshop, Birgit shares her techniques of color combinations and application of watercolor to color blending to create large, smooth washes of color for the petals.
