WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONIn this two-day workshop we will create a personal shrine using a wide variety of media, including collage, painting, found objects and personal memorabilia. Participants will define a mythic journey for inspiration, then bring the shrine to life through modifying a pre-existing form, such as a box or a basket. Class size limited to 10. WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONJoin pro photographer Glenn Steiner to shoot and process your digital files using Adobe Bridge CS-4, while exploring the light of Mendocino. Individual attention is offered to beginners and intermediate students. We will photograph local harbors in the magical morning light and learn how to pre-visualize and shoot using MANUAL settings in various weather conditions. Critiques will be given throughout the week. Bring exposure meters and tripods (required).

Students will engage in specific practices to improve fluency in proportion, volume, shape, composition, etc. The emphasis on fundamentals optimizes results for students at all skill levels, including beginners. ROBERT ROSS has been drawing and painting the nude for 50 years. Since moving to the Mendocino Coast in 1965, he's participated in scores of solo and group exhibits; has taught a variety of media; and has run figure drawing workshops and classes for three decades. He currently coordinates the on-going figure drawing drop-in open studio at the Mendocino Art Center on Wednesdays from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONWe will work on new compositions every day, starting with water-to-color blend. Learn how to create smooth blending techniques and add drama and shape. How to paint water drops on flowers will be one of many lessons included. During this three-day workshop we will go to the Botanical Gardens in Fort Bragg to take reference photos, weather and flowers permitting. Some knowledge of watercolor is helpful. Open to all skill levels, including beginners.
BIRGIT O'CONNOR is a national instructor and contributing editor to "Watercolor Artist" and "Artists Magazine" and has produced over 13 instructional programs. In March 2008 Birgit released her first book, "Watercolor in Motion," with her second book, "Watercolor Essentials," scheduled for a February 2009 release.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONLearn to produce breathtaking still lifes glowing with brilliant color! Working from life, students will render their subjects using a layering technique incorporating both semi-hard and soft pastels. You'll also learn how to blend those layers in varying degrees depending on your desired result. The instructor will demo this technique and touch on color theory, as well. Students should be able to complete two to three small pieces by the end of the workshop. Materials fee: $10.

Class demonstrations will include gutta resist, shading and blending to create form, painting backgrounds, as well as layering color to create depth. This course gives the novice to the digital world the opportunity to become familiar with the capabilities that exist beyond "point and shoot." Other areas covered will be setting up your camera for picture taking, photo formats, shooting modes, ISO, white balance, histograms, digital versus optical zooming, among many more. Then you will get to practice and see the results.
LARRY WAGNER has been a photographer since he was eleven years old and a fan of computer technology since the seventies. Digital photography and Photoshop became Larry's passion at their onset. Larry has recently published two volumes of "Artists of the Mendocino Coast," and the Mendocino Art Center 50th Anniversary 2010 Exotic Calendar.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONUnravel the mystery of the circle arts and make magical mandalas to access your inner powers. Free of traditional perspective and drawing upon ancient art rituals, we will draw and paint mandalas using a variety of media. Well begin with a slide/music presentation revealing the radiant symmetry in nature, integrated with sacred art traditions of the world. Participants will receive a copy of their astrological natal chart with a mini-reading to inspire a personal mandala painting.
