WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Learn to paint an enchanted lighthouse, tropical paradise, wine country fantasy, dynamic rural landscape in all four seasons, and special effects utilizing the elements and principles of design. Demos/hands-on use of seven water-based media: Watercolor, Acrylic, Gouache, Casein, Inks, Egg Tempera and Matte Acrylic. In this two-day watercolor methods class with award-winning artist, Jeannie Vodden, learn how to achieve Jeannie's magical realism... a combination of imagination, attention to detail, and successive transparent colorful washes. Jeannie will teach you how to put color into your own paintings. You will go home with a small painting, several practice studies, and a better understanding of watercolor. WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Making monoprints is a spontaneous and experimental process. In this workshop we use simple tools to create different effects and explore a range of textural effects using leaves, netting, lace, stencils and more... the potential and possibilities are limitless. No two prints can ever be alike - thus the name, monoprinting. There are no "rules" and no art experience is required, yet challenging to even the most experienced artists. Tuition: $190.

CAYEN ROBERTSON is a working painter, sculptor and assemblage artist who has taught monoprinting and given visual perception workshops at the O'Hanlon Center for the Arts in Mill Valley, CA, for more than 25 years and for the last several years at the Mendocino Art Center. She has traveled extensively in Europe and the US, studying art in private and public collections.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Learn to produce breathtaking still lifes glowing with brilliant color! Working from life, students will render their subjects using a layering technique incorporating both semi-hard and soft pastels. You'll also learn how to blend those layers in varying degrees depending on your desired result. The instructor will demo this technique and touch on color theory also. Students should be able to complete two to three small (8" x 10") pieces by the end of the workshop.

GEMA LOPEZ recently left a 20+ year career in the graphic design field to pursue her passion of drawing and painting, a passion first instilled in her by her grandfather, a muralist in central Mexico. The recipient of several awards, she has exhibited in the San Francisco Bay Area.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Spend a week of intensive painting from life on location and in the studio. Beginning with preliminary sketches, we will work on several paintings during the week, with an emphasis on building up layers to create light and form. Some drawing/painting experience is desirable, but Diane is comfortable working with students at all levels of experience.

DIANE TESLER began her painting career in Hawaii, drawn to the quality of light and a compelling subject: abandoned cars. The power of light and the beauty of the discarded have remained a constant in her work, since. A painting instructor at the Art League School in Alexandria, VA, she has had one-person exhibitions at the Midwest Museum of American Art, Vanderbilt University and the Evansville (IN) Museum of Arts and Science.

CHARLOTTE SEVERIN has taught more than 30 years in Bay Area schools and is teaching her 17th year of adult classes for the city of Pleasanton. She paints all around the world leading plein air travel workshops, last year to Spain and southwest France, this year Tuscany and the Cinque Terre, Italy. A signature member of CWA, she has paintings in the permanent collections of the Oakland Museum and the Riverside Art Museum and her works are collected internationally.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
This class will start with a lecture/PowerPoint presentation about the major abstract art currents. You will have a chance to explore various styles in watercolor or acrylic paint. Structured approaches will dovetail with improvisation and chance happenings. A variety of materials, tools and techniques will be introduced. Group projects, as well as individual instruction and instructor's demonstrations are part of this class. Suitable for absolute beginners and intermediate students.

CHRISTINE COHEN's painting instruction covers a wide scope of styles. She teaches regularly at the College of Marin in Marin County. Her fresh style of teaching watercolors and acrylics inspires and support students of all skill levels.

Since arriving on Maui in 1981, CARMEN GARDNER's artistic journey started as a popular radio personality, then as an actor/director, including a summer at England's Royal National Theatre. She has come back full circle to her first love: painting. Carmen treasures the "creative process," more than the arrival at a final product. She is honored to be sharing the adventure with the many "Maui Masters" who make the Valley Isle their home. Carmen is an extremely popular Mauai artist whose workshops fill up every time. This will be her first watercolor workshop at the Mendocino Art Center.
