The new innovative Ro-Kata, wax-stencil process has a historical predecessor in Japan as a paste-resist technique during the 16th century. This extraordinary, inexpensive, flexible wax-resist technique for pattern-making, has now come into its own during the last 30 years.

Kiranada in an innovator in this area and enjoys exploring the multiple uses of wax stencils as a designing tool on silk using natural soy and beeswax and the glorious and traditional acid dyes of the kimono industry. In this intensive professional-level class we will learn: preparing a design, transferring, cutting, applying wax and dyeing your own images, using Japanese tools. Four different innovative ways of interpreting the same design will be included. An analysis of different types of stencil motifs will be included as well as a variety of creative wax and dye applications and stencil placement will be covered. Kiranada has used this process over the past 25 years on kimono, obi, scrolls, standing screens, fashion and wall hangings with great success. This is a wonderful design application technique to add to your creative dye painting toolbox and is open to all.
