Whether you are a beginner or you have years of drawing experience this workshop will offer the participant a chance to explore new ways to see and experience a drawing process that has long lasting results. With an exploration of Blind Contour Drawing, Collage/India Ink Drawing, and Sketchbook Drawing and Development Practices, we will explore our drawing skills in a way that will encourage us to develop qualities of open-minded curiosity and courage. Our aim is not to get it right, or perfect it, but to have an experience of drawing with an attitude of a beginner’s mind.

On the first day we will do Blind Contour Drawing: A sense of freedom in our drawing may be achieved when we let go of the need to make it “perfect.” The more we do the more we are able to become. Blind contour drawing practice teaches us to grow what Yoga calls the one-pointed-focus in which we forget everything but what we are doing. Blind Contour Drawing will assist you in bringing this quality our whole lives.

On day two we will work with Collage/India Ink Drawing. We will explore drawing with scissors, paper, and India ink. Henri Matisse was the first to create art in this way. It is not a precise art but one that is open to spontaneous exploration of the artist’s declarative process.
