Never tried animal portraiture, but always wanted to? Done some paintings of animals, but seeking to hone your technique to really bring out their personality? Always wanted to try — or learn new skills — in watercolor? This is the class for you.

Over two days, you’ll create one or more finished portraits from the photograph(s) of your choice, in three steps:

1. Drawing: Practice sketching (including the essentials of animal anatomy) and explore your ideas with three quick drafts of your subject in charcoal on newsprint, learning or refining basic drawing techniques.

2. Blueprint: Create a subject design using pencil on cold-pressed
watercolor paper.

3. Painting: Explore different ways of bringing animals to life on paper: Wet-on-dry to allow greater control and precision in the details, or wet-on-wet to paint more quickly and freely, emphasizing movement. Learn to use a limited color palette to do more with less, so you’re spending more time on exploring — and less money on paint.

Lynn will emphasize one-on-one personal guidance and clear, concise feedback to help you reach your goals in a fun, exploratory atmosphere. Open to all levels.
