This workshop will provide a wide range of techniques in order to build up beautiful surfaces with a variety of texturing and surface treatments on functional and sculptural forms. We will discuss relating texture to forms both technically and aesthetically. Students will then learn various surface treatments using underglazes, colored slips, and the ancient art of mishima.
We will bisque on the second day of class. Using the bisque-ware on the last day, we will have comprehensive discussions and demos on how to appropriately glaze your piece according to your texture. Glazing techniques such as wax resist, latex resist, glaze inlay, oxide washes, and spraying glaze will be introduced. Students should have at least an intermediate skill set.
