CLASS DESCRIPTION
Paint dynamic representational landscapes using the underlying principles of abstraction. Through direct observation and sketching of the natural world we learn how to make our paintings not only look right but feel right. In this workshop we work with landscape/seascape subjects to depict nature's poetry in water-media. There will be painting demonstrations, talks, hands-on painting, personal instruction, slideshows, and critiques. Outdoor/indoor studio sketching and painting.

Demonstrations and instruction are aimed toward creating dynamic water-media paintings by concentrating on shape as the underlying structure. Line, shape, value, color, and texture are the building blocks of art. We will learn how to weave these into our paintings to create the strong design we seek. Water-media technique is another facet of the workshop with instruction provided on color charging, wet in wet, layering and glazing, etc.

We will use white gesso mixed with watercolor to create opaque layers and other related techniques.

A typical workshop day consists of a morning demonstration/talk, individual painting and instruction. Slideshows are a part of the week's curriculum. At intervals we will have group critiques. Plans are for outdoor sketching, photography and indoor studio painting.

We translate our subject from sketches to painting.

Intended for intermediate and advanced : If you have some drawing and watercolor painting experience this is for you.
