We will be constructing either a basic jacket or vest starting with a simple pattern without darts and build a garment from fabric scraps, leftovers from other garments or quilts. You can even use new fabric if you must! The process consists of making a garment with a raw edge, finished seams, machine applique, embellishments, either hand or machine quilting, bindings, foundation work plus more. We may even eliminate side and shoulder seams.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
SANDRA WAGNER is a fiber artist and makes art quilts, is a fabric hand dyer, surface designer, and designs wearable art... Fabric has been in her life as long as she can remember starting with doll clothes. It was a natural thing to go from sewing children and adult clothing to making wearable art and art quilts. The hand dyeing process is an added bonus for a day of play. Sandra is a past quilt shop owner and now teaches workshops in quilting, one of a kind garment and fabric dyeing. She has taught private classes, at guilds and the Houston International Quilt Festival.
Sandra has shown nationally and internationally, in galleries and has pieces in private collections throughout the United States. She has designed a garment for the Bernina Runway Fashion show that previewed at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX. Her garments, hand dyed batiks and art quilts have been published in “On The Surface” by Wendy Hill, “Diamond Quilts and Beyond” by Jan Krentz, “Furoshiki Fabric Wraps” by the Pixeladies, “Blueline” and Bernina of America “Fashion Imagination.” Presently she has a piece in the traveling show Strata. Sandra has won many awards over the years. She has been juried into three Studio Art Quilt Association (SAQA) Regional shows.
Sandra is a member of Studio Arts Quilt Association, STASH Art Quilt Group, Sierra Gold Quilters Guild, Blueline Gallery, Mendocino Art Center, Amador Arts Council, Amador County Artist Association, and the International Quilt Association.
Living in the Sierra Nevada Mountain of Northern California she finds inspiration in the landscape and colors around her. Sandra shares her home with husband John and her golden retriever Isabella.
