Join Seattle mixed media artist Caitlin Dundon in a three-day exploration starting with the basics of mixed media art starting with paper collage on wood panels using acrylic gel to create marks with household and fine art tools, followed by layers of special heavy gesso applied with a palette knife, color and more mark making. Students will also work with texture paste and crackle paste too.

During the workshop, you will learn the magical process of collage working with different kinds and weights of papers – but also layering and deconstructing. Work with washes and glazing. Important demonstrations in bravery, problem solving and just jumping in without preconceived plans to help transform your art and the process by which you create. Demonstrations on layering with stencils, reverse stenciling, dry and wet glazing, sgrafitto, sanding back, antiquing, stamping and scribing with unusual tools to create mark making.

Whether this is your first acrylic class or you have been doing it for years, you will enjoy practicing to be more spontaneous and come away from this workshop with an arsenal of new techniques in creating texture. Work with your own choice of imagery or an abstract design – this workshop will take you from bare wood panels to freedom, color and magical transformation.

This class is for beginners through advanced painters.
