CLASS DESCRIPTION
Painting is all about relationships. Have you wanted to get a better handle on how you choose and use your color? What effect do you want? Do you want it to glow or shimmer or be based in mysterious shadow? Working with value scales and a color wheel we will create various scales of color combinations and apply them to actual watercolor work. We start with value experience and continue on with pure hue, tone, shades and tints in various combinations.

This is not just pointing to examples and thinking that looking is enough to know how it works. We jump in and do the hands on work to gain experience and to “own” the material.

Our rigorous exercises will be applied both to the abstract and to representational work. By doing this basic color-work you can gain a lot of freedom in your palette selection.

You may come away with an understanding of color relationships and a sense of choice about how to interpret the world around you (or in you) that takes away some of the guess work when faced with a confusing array of simple tubes or chips of color and the endless possibilities.

Suitable for beginners or anyone who wants to take their work to another level.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
KAREN LEGAULT is joyfully committed to visual poetry, light, transformation and healing, through paintings that bring energy and serenity into the world. She has been teaching art for the last 25 years, including brush painting since 1999, sharing a lifetime of exploration in drawing and painting arts, with adults and children of all ages.

Observant and intuitive, she meets you where you are at and encourages you to evolve beyond a momentary limitation. She recognizes that you will bring your own sensibility to the techniques presented while drawing out your inner artist.

A painter for over 50 years, showing her work extensively since 1989, she exhibits at art festivals and her work is collected widely. A few of her pieces are in the Alameda County Art Collection and some local hospitals.
