This class will offer experiences for those familiar with marbling as well as first timers. The objective is for everyone to come away with 10 to 20 sheets of beautifully marbled paper as well as an opportunity to explore marbling of other surfaces to include garments, fabric, absorbent objects made of cast paper, papier mache, and wood.
The first day we'll go through the process of preparing paints (acrylics) and gelatin size. Then I will take you thru the steps of alum sizing paper and fabrics, laying out paint on the size, developing patterns and pulling sheets of marbled paper and fabric. We will also explore some controlled techniques to realize pictorial images within the marbling process. The next day I will demonstrate marbling appropriate 3D objects, fabric and techniques for collage and paper construction with marbled paper. During previous workshops students marbled scarves, ties, napkins and fabric samples great for quilting!
