The potter’s wheel is one of the quintessential clay tools and, as a practice, lands somewhere between craft and meditation. This workshop will offer techniques and tricks to improve your throwing and expand the possibilities available to you on the wheel. We will work through a variety of forms, scales, and textures. Students will be supported in pushing past their comfort zone and time will be set aside to address specific challenges students bring.

IAN HAZARD-BILL was born and raised in Marin County. He started working in clay in high school and has continued since. He has a B.A. in ceramics and community-based sustainability from The Evergreen State College. He has been an apprentice to Seth Cardew in Spain for three months, an Artist in Residence at the Cub Creek Foundation, studio manager at Sugar Maples Center for the Arts, as the assistant to the Director at Cub Creek Foundation, and as an Artist in Residence at the Mendocino Art Center before taking over as the Ceramics Program Coordinator. He makes functional pottery on the wheel, and with a unique slab-building technique and fires his work in wood or salt/soda kilns.
