In this concentrated, immersive workshop you will create at least one landscape or other design, either abstract or realistic, utilizing one or more free-motion stitching techniques, including Thread Sketching, Thread Painting or Textural, Dimensional or Structural Stitching.

Plan and complete these projects while perfecting your stitching skill level. Work on projects featuring or combining one or more of the above stitching techniques. Learn more about using materials such as dissolvable Solvy (often used in creating 3D effects) and other supplies used in non-traditional stitched projects. Immerse yourself in improvisational stitching, design techniques, best practices and developing a project plan from idea to implementation including what process and/or technique will best fit your concept (for example such as whether to use High-loft batting, Trapunto, Mock-Trapunto or Boutis techniques to create the Dimensional effect you are imagining).

This project-oriented workshop will be the next step in developing your free-motion stitching skills after taking the Creative Stitching Bootcamp: Basic Training course or if you already have some solid free-motion quilting/stitching experience it will provide you the opportunity to further develop those skills and explore new techniques. Lastly, learn about simple finishing techniques for your projects if time allows.

LINDA V. HUBBARD’s “mission” is to explore the myriad of techniques that can be used as tools to create with cloth and thread. Her interest in art (music study in Europe and a BA Degree in Art – concentration Ceramics) was always important but blossomed when she discovered quilting in the 1990’s. She taught herself the basics of traditional quilting and soon found herself experimenting with many non-traditional techniques such as Fabric Manipulation, Insertion, Dimension, Raw Edge Applique, Rust Dyeing, Screen Printing, Stamping and Stenciling and has most recently been working with the Discharge Dyeing process to create interesting and unpredictable designs on fabric. In working with these more abstract designs she has found that free-motion stitching techniques have become a more important component in her artwork adding depth, dimension, texture and even three-dimensional effects.

Linda is a resident of Benicia, California, and has participated in many Bay Area Art Fairs over the years. She is a member of Arts Benicia, the Fairfield Suisun City Visual Arts Association and the Vacaville Art League and Gallery, and has been juried into many of their exhibits. Recently she was a featured guest artist at the Blackhawk Gallery in Danville, California, and was selected to participate in the 2018 annual “Material Matters” exhibit at the Seager Gray Gallery in Mill Valley.

Fiber Art in Linda’s view is constantly evolving as more techniques are developed and more rules are broken which she thinks will result in more exciting artworks to come.
