CLASS DESCRIPTION
For thousands of years humans have incorporated small containers into their lives as tokens, spiritual pathways, sculpture, idols, and practical storage of things.

Learn the ins and outs of design, elements and fabrication of miniature boxes. This class will incorporate many techniques to create small intimate containers. Traditional forms (square, round) as well as micro shell forms will be demonstrated. Many texturing styles will be incorporated as well as mechanisms for closures. The tiny containers can be wearable or tabletop sculptures. Students will be responsible for materials and some tools, forming tools will be provided.


ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
ANDREA HARVIN-KENNINGTON studied metalsmithing in Scandinavia in the early 1980's and completed her MFA in Metals Design from East Carolina University in 1994. She studied under John Satterfield and apprenticed for Betty Helen Longhi from 1995 to 1997 as well as teaching metals classes for 14 years at the famous Sawtooth School for Visual Arts in Winston-Salem, NC. She is an Exhibiting Member of the nationally recognized guilds of Southern Highland Craft Guild (since 1996) and Piedmont Craftsmen (since 1997), achieved only by being juried in and accepted through strict standards. Kennington has been awarded several grants and participated in many national shows over the last 25 years.

Current MAC Members: $517
Non-members: $575 plus a $45 non-member registration fee

REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS
Cancellations must be made in writing, either by mail or email. If you notify us at least 21 days prior to the first class meeting, you will receive a refund of tuition less a $45 cancellation fee. No refunds will be made after that date for any reason due to our contractual obligations and material acquisitions. If the Art Center is compelled to cancel a class you will receive a full tuition refund. Memberships are non-refundable as they are considered a donation to the Art Center.
