CLASS DESCRIPTION
Potters and handbuilders will investigate the expressive qualities of different clay bodies and finishes during this workshop. Each variety of clay offers a distinctive sensation that best describes a form and/or idea. We will make and experiment with inclusions such as mica, cellulose fiber, and feldspar chip. We will also make and apply a Greek style Terra-Sigillata with and without colorants, which will become the base to some of our projects. The alternative finishing techniques that we will explore include hands-on demonstrations with ferric chloride saggars, ferric chloride spray, smoke lick firing, obvara firings, and pit fire, as well as a shino lecture and firing using my stack ash technique and layered spray technique. This comprehensive course is designed to catapult you into unexplored realms of creative intention and invention.

**Please note that you will need to purchase an organic vapor mask to participate in the workshop ($40). In preparation for the workshop, you will need approximately 15 small pieces at various stages of completion. Please allow enough time for this planning. Detailed information will be provided upon registration.
