Make a beautiful pair of earrings using the ancient classical jewelry arts of enameling, granulation, and chain making. First, you will create your own cabochon “gemstones” by enameling – fusing glass to metal in a kiln. You will be introduced to transparent, opaque, and liquid enamels on fine silver and copper. Then, you will create a bezel setting for your enamels using granulation – fusing tiny spheres of metal onto a back sheet in interesting patterns. Finally, you will embellish your settings with chain made with the basic loop-in-loop method.
“Ancient techniques fascinate me. I like to use traditional methods, such as cloisonné enameling and granulation, with bright colors and bold contrasts to create fresh, contemporary designs.”
– Jennifer Jordan Park
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Jewelry artist JENNIFER JORDAN PARK uses vivid, transparent colored enamels on luminous fine silver. The undulating curves and irregular silhouettes give her work an organic quality that is balanced by classical design references, such as granulated settings or bezel-set gemstones.
Park received her MA in Studio Art (jewelry/metals) from New Jersey City University and her BFA from University of Tennessee. She worked as a graphic print designer for 20 years, acquiring a keen sense of color. While working in the Middle East, she developed an appreciation for silver and high-karat gold, which she has used creating her line of enamel jewelry for the last 15 years. You may have seen her work in Art Jewelry, Lapidary Journal, or Inside Jersey magazines.
