Learn why wool felts, use your artistic talent and learn how to create a three-dimensional form by hand wet felting a bag that will look great displayed on a pedestal and be the envy of your friends. Examples will be shown which show how color and texture change your basic form. Using a resist you will start with a creamy white merino wool base then add color and texture, as desired, to the form. You will learn how to place and create the openings for the drawstring as well as several ways to make the drawstrings. This class will give you some upper body and hand exercise and is open to all levels of felt makers.

"I have always had a fascination with textiles. When I discovered the Fiber Arts Program at the University of Oregon, I knew it was for me. My BFA show was of large hand felted sculptures; this progressed to weaving and wearable art.

“I have been the owner of the Black Iris since 1981. Black Iris is my studio, gallery and boutique, which features natural fiber clothing with an emphasis on my wearable art accessories which complement the solid color pallet of the clothing and give my customers a way to project their inner selves visually.

“In 1996 I added glass to my fiber and metal skills so I could make jewelry with unique beads for my boutique/gallery. In today’s global world, I find it is important to create accessories with a mixture of media, this makes the accessory more interesting to the wearer as well as the viewer. When possible, I use re-purposed and sustainable materials.

“I find it inspiring to teach others, to help them learn the skills to express themselves using multiple media. I get great pleasure from helping people discover how to turn fiber and glass into lasting and beautiful wearable art.”
