Load and fire the MAC train kiln using non-traditional methods and materials in order to emphasize the soft effects, stone-like textures, and rich iron color palettes of mid-range wood firing. Please note that the kiln will be fired to a cooler temperature range of approximately cone 4 to cone 9. Bisque fired, unglazed, sculptural work is highly recommended.

ZOË POWELL holds a B.A. in Ceramics and a B.S. in Biology from The College of William & Mary, and is currently working as a studio ceramist in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Her sculptural work serves as a formal exploration of human emotions; an attempt to visualize the intangible. Zoë is a former wood fire resident of both Cub Creek Foundation, in Appomattox, Virginia, and Cobb Mountain Art & Ecology Project, in Loch Lomond, California. She is a past VMFA fellowship recipient and has been awarded numerous grants for her work with native clays and wood firing. Her work has been exhibited in various galleries throughout the country.
