This course will give students an introduction into how to make and handbuild with paperclay! Students will learn about the advantages and varied uses of using paper pulp with their own clay bodies and the broad range of uses paperclay can add to your studio process. Paperclay is great for refined sculpture, jewelry, and small works, it improves joining capabilities and decreases warping and shrinkage, all the while reducing the overall heft of the work.
Starting with a brief slideshow highlighting the artist’s background and the varied uses of paper clay, we will mix up some mid range porcelain paperclay for our own use. With the instructors guidance, students will handbuild their own paperclay wall sculptures with shaped flora and fauna, and use plaster press molds to create texture and thin, delicate edges. The studio provides firing and shipping at an extra cost.
