Come participate in a wood firing with local wood fire artist Sarah Logan. The kiln Sarah will be firing is a Bury Box Train Kiln that was completed in fall 2016. Its unique design allows for easy loading of wares and quick and efficient firing. This kiln will give great results in less time than larger anagama kilns and is a great learning tool for both beginner and well seasoned wood fire artists.
This class will start off with a discussion of glazing and loading techniques and will be loaded the first day. Participants will be expected to take on wood shifts for stoking the kiln. This is a great time to learn about how this kiln fires, what woods work well and to gain experience in operating wood kilns. The kiln will be fired for three days with one day for cool down and the last day to unload and a discussion about the results and firing. Sarah will conduct a few slide lectures and give some throwing and hand building demos as well.
