CLASS DESCRIPTION
Using clay slabs as our canvas, we will construct small tiles and slab forms that we apply texture, imagery, and pattern to. I will cover some strategies and methods for slab construction, and demonstrate a variety of resist, impression, and printing methods to create complex surfaces on the slab pieces.

There will be a $20 materials fee to be paid to instructor during the workshop.

 

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
TIFFANY SCHMIERER received her MFA with an emphasis in ceramics from San Francisco State University. Her complex abstract ceramic sculptures are multi-layered with rich color, pattern, and imagery. Her artwork has been exhibited in regional, national, and international exhibitions; selected venues include the American Museum of Ceramic Art, New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum, Crocker Art Museum, San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, John Natsoulas Gallery, Gallery Susan Alexander, Manna Gallery, Clay Mix Gallery, Pence Gallery, SMAart Gallery, The Clay Studio, The Potters’ Studio Gallery, Blue Line Gallery, Richmond Art Center Gallery, and The Artery. Recognitions for her sculpture include an Alameda County art commission, the First Place Jurors award at America’s Clayfest, a NICHE Award for ceramic sculpture, and the Alpha Award for best in show at the California Clay Competition in 2005.

Tiffany Schmierer is a Professor of Art at Skyline College in San Bruno, where she has headed the ceramics program for 10 years. She has also taught ceramics at San Francisco State University, Merritt College, Cosumnes River College, Cabrillo College, as well as workshops and community classes throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area. She lives and has a studio in San Francisco, CA.

Non-members: $315 plus a $45 non-member registration fee

REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS
Cancellations must be made in writing, either by mail or email. If you notify us at least 21 days prior to the first class meeting, you will receive a refund of tuition less a $45 cancellation fee. No refunds will be made after that date for any reason due to our contractual obligations and material acquisitions. If the Art Center is compelled to cancel a class you will receive a full tuition refund. Memberships are non-refundable as they are considered a donation to the Art Center.
