CLASS DESCRIPTION
This is a workshop for anyone that loves fabric with either a quilting or arts background. We will create five sample pieces in the two days and they will reference the five elements of design and inform the students of different ways to use all sorts of fabric in a painterly way.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
SUE WADEMAN is one of New Zealand’s leading textile artists and she has taught her unique Fabric Collage classes around the world, including eight cities In Japan, four states in the US, Italy, France, Germany, Denmark, all over the United Kingdom, South Africa, in her homeland Australia, and also around her now adopted home of New Zealand.

Sue was initially exhibiting her works in the world of quilts, but when she moved to Queenstown, New Zealand, in 2000, it was the perfect chance to start framing her landscapes and move more to the arena of the fine art world. At first there was a little resistance to acknowledge textiles as a valid medium to create pictures with, but over the last 17 years things have slowly changed and Sue has won more than 12 local
Art Awards for what she calls her “fabric paintings.”

Sue was initially trained as a commercial artist in the 70’s doing many nighttime art courses and working in some prestigious advertising art studios in Sydney and London. Her three children took over her life for 15 years and then she immersed once more as a leading art quilter in the mid 90’s.

Now, her inspiration comes from the beauty of the alpine village where she lives in the South Island of New Zealand. It’s been said that Sue’s artworks are “jewel like images, an expression of her love for the environment around her.”
