Learn how to create lightweight reversible scarves with a fusion of silk, wool roving, yarns and beads. In this workshop you will learn why wool felts. You will learn what type of fabrics work best, how much fabric to start with and how much wool you should use for each scarf. You will also learn about ways to finish the scarf edges, to incorporate novelty yarns and use seed beads. You will have time to complete one to three scarves during the workshop. This workshop is good for any level of felt makers.

I have always had a fascination with textiles. When I discovered the Fiber Arts Program at the University of Oregon, I knew it was for me. My BFA show was of large hand felted sculptures, this progressed to weaving and wearable art. I have been the owner of the Black Iris since 1981. Black Iris is my studio, gallery and boutique which features natural fiber clothing with an emphasis on my wearable art accessories. My accessories complement the solid color pallet of the clothing and give my customers a way to project their inner selves visually. In 1996 I added glass to my fiber and metal skills so I could make jewelry with unique beads for my boutique/gallery. In today’s global world, I find it is important to create accessories with a mixture of media, this makes the accessory more interesting to the wearer as well as the viewer. When possible, I use re-purposed and sustainable materials. I find it inspiring to teach others, to help them learn the skills to express themselves using multiple media. I get great pleasure from helping people discover how to turn fiber and glass into lasting and beautiful wearable art.
