CLASS DESCRIPTION
We will explore the wonder of the magical felting needle, and its power to transform imagination into form, as we create a variety of projects. Needle felting is a type of sculptural felting which uses a special needle, a foam work surface and wool to create 3D sculptures. The fundamentals of needle felting, sculpting with armatures and facial features will be covered in this wild and wooly whimsical class. Be prepared to be delighted by the wonders that emerge! Projects to be created during the weekend include bird, animal and human sculptures, and a two-dimensional mixed media tapestry painted with wool. We will spend part of Saturday afternoon beachcombing favorite local beaches, finding treasures to incorporate into our Sunday projects, literally felting the wild beauty of the Mendocino coast into our creations. This class is appropriate for all skill levels.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
CORBIN BRASHEAR is a fiber artist and teacher who enjoys pushing the edge of wool, whimsy and wonder by using a felting needle to sculpt and coax elemental spirits into form. Her work is profoundly influenced by the rugged wilderness of her Oregon home where she finds the raw materials with which she works, such as driftwood, kelp and lichen. She weaves these treasures together with her felting needle to create her whimsical sculptures, masks and tapestries. Her work has been is exhibited in galleries and fine art and craft shows throughout the Pacific Northwest and California. For the last 13 years Corbin has been leading needlefelting workshops, both locally and in Northern California, for both adults and kids. She loves sharing this satisfying and whimsical art form with people, helping to guide her students to connect with their own inner creativity and sense of magic.
