This workshop will focus on how to create large Artful platters that can be mounted on the wall or displayed free standing. Students will begin by learning how to center 10 pounds of clay and work their way up to 15-20 pounds… 25-35 pounds for the truly experienced and explorative! Byard will help each student with centering, opening, pulling, and compressing smaller platters the first day and larger platters the second day. Both days, he will demonstrate how he makes, decorates, and applies surface designs and expressive elements to his large platters. Students will follow suit with their own expressions via texture, smoothness, and a combination of the two. By the end of the two-day sessions, students will conclude several smaller platters (10-18 pounders) and one or two larger platters (18-20+ pounder). Byard highly recommends signing up for an alternative/atmospheric firing class at MAC to finish glazing these platters/projects.
