Lisa will demonstrate a variety of sculpting techniques for creating hollow female form to be applied into a larger sculpted piece or stand alone as a finished work. We will focus on how to form hollow female figure parts individually and create different forms in at least three color styles. All work is done with Boro. Discussing gravity and how it lends to sculpting techniques with hollow glass figures, and how to apply them to various projects and designs. Lisa will use transparent prepped colored tube pull sections as well as solid color hollow sections to show their varying capabilities. Students should be able to practice forms during the class with oversight by instructor as needed after we do at least two demonstrations during the ongoing lecture. Each student will receive laminated mini guide of the step-by-step instructions for basic female form shaping, including sketched pictures to use at torch in class and take home. Lisa will bring and make prepared sections for everyone to have a chance to try each type (transparent color, solid color as well as clear) on torch. Looking forward to seeing you soon! This course will be an intensive two full days.

LISA HEIKKA-HUBER began working glass in the hot shop of Shasta College in 1998 in Northern California. By the end of summer in 1999, she got a full time job lampworking borosilicate glass for an area production studio. The following year Lisa started her own studio, Amorphous Glass, only to rename the company Lisa's Pieces Glass in 2000. In 2006 she met Banjo and was able to take a week long private class with him, further developing her glass sculpting abilities. This enabled Lisa to win the very first Female Flame Off held in Chicago during 2007. She took first place in both functional sculpture and wearable art with her Giraffe's. This sparked Lisa's desire to focus more on hollow sculpting. Her work can be found in a number of gift and gallery shops, museums and small galleries in more than 40 states and abroad in private collections.

Sculpting is Lisa's passion and art is a deeply rooted part of her family heritage. Her father followed in his father's footsteps to become a renowned sculptor of western art. He opened The Heikka Foundry in Hollywood during the early 1970's. Her grandfather, Earl Heikka was a country western sculptor from Great Falls, Montana. His work can be seen in the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, The Smithsonian, The Rockwell Museum, and The Charles Russell Museum, in addition to many other private collections and galleries. Currently Lisa's work is focusing on sculpting hollow blown glass horses in various scenes. Experimenting with functional, mixed media and kinetic sculpting. Life and realism in motion within her glass are constantly driving her work. She seems to work best blowing glass alone and has a nice quiet home studio in Humboldt County, California. After 20 years of glasswork, she is finally offering private studio classes at her home studio in Arcata, CA.
