Using simple forms like pendants and marbles, we will explore basic techniques for creating space scenes and cosmic objects with borosilicate glass. The class will cover the use of glass frit, silver filings, metal fuming, and crushed opal to create the appearance of stars and nebulae. We will also go over techniques for creating spiral galaxies and planets. By the end of the class you will have enough knowledge to create your own cosmos.

CHRIS WILLIAMS, aka KOJI, is an independent artist based out of the Bay Area. He grew up in San Jose, but left to study Physics in Santa Barbara. After years immersed in science, his search for a different form of creative expression led to glass art, and he immediately discovered a love for the medium. In 2008, Koji began a glassblowing apprenticeship in Berkeley, CA, where he had the opportunity to learn from a number of talented master glassblowers. Within a year he had progressed to a teaching position, giving lessons to the studio’s new apprentices. Koji’s apprenticeship ended in 2009 and he began working as an independent artist. Since then he has been developing new techniques and refining his style. Drawing inspiration from technology, magic, nature and the cosmos, he strives to create art that is simple, detailed, classy, and eclectic.
