CLASS DESCRIPTION
Ellen will work with students to understand and practice how to do a value studies iconic scene in Mendocino. On the second and third day, students will paint plein air and apply these techniques to their paintings.

Students will also focus on connecting the light and dark patterns throughout their painting to create stronger compositions and how to simplify their shapes.

Ellen will demo each day.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
ELLEN HOWARD works primarily in oils, studying landscape and marine subjects on location, allowing her to be outdoors, taking in the nuances, beauty, and diversity of Northern California. True enjoyment comes from painting highlights along the Pacific Coast, capturing the light as it spreads across a scene.

"I strive for my paintings to engage the viewer and evoke a sense of connection, creating a stillness that transports the onlooker to a tranquil space. Each painting is unique and an expression of that mood or energy expressed at that time.”

— Ellen Howard
